Working with COLA to determine database and server match to facilitate upgrade of this site in terms of usability, maintenance, appearance and accessibility. A model of the database structure is in place and ready for conversion utility.

Applied CCS to all pages, adapted each page to more modern font. Preparing for end of year switch to new model by formatting text to provide for easier transition. See CREEES site news link for all future updates.

March 17, 2004

Systematically testing all external links to locate sites which have moved in the last year, or who have rearranged site structure. Several links have been corrected, many moved sites located. Beginning with "Regions", the last three days have updated all but Central Europe and Eastern Europe.

"Under Construction" pages will be built after this process is complete--probably over the summer.

The site has been pared and pruned, but nothing that is gone should be apparent to the user. All orphaned files (almost a gigabyte!) have been archived on "staff central" (a server not accessible to general users).

Now down to a slim and trim 96 files, this site should more easily be adaptable to more modern architecture. As soon as the new "test" Slavic site is off the test server (it was completed a month ago, but publishing requires administrative approval-- still pending), it is planned to copy REENIC to that server and begin the process of upgrading the entire site. A completely new and modern look should be the result.

Meanwhile, as links break and are reported, they'll be corrected or deleted. The add a site form page is working again.

The site has been restructured so many internal links have been changed.

The home page of "... reenic.html" is now "...index.html"
http://reenic.utexas.edu/reenic.html is now http://reenic.utexas.edu/reenic/index.html

The country files have been moved into a folder of their own, and so country.html is now http://reenic.utexas.edu/reenic/countries/index.html.

The region files have been moved into a folder of their own and so region.html is now http://reenic.utexas.edu/reenic/regions/index.html.

The navigation strip at the top and bottom of most pages (including this one) has been expanded and updated.

Several maintenance issues have been implemented.
